# Does your Upper West Side shower need a part or a new door?

MetroGlass Pro gallery photograph of a clear enclosure. The handle, curb and glass above the short tiled wall are visible. The location is not recorded here, and the photograph does not document a repair.

One morning there’s a damp line on the bath mat. A week later the door starts to rub. Those two clues belong in the same estimate request, even if the first thing you notice is the tired strip along the bottom of the glass.

For an Upper West Side shower you want to keep, start by describing what changed. A worn sweep and a door that no longer travels freely are different problems to check. In the company photograph, the pull identifies the moving door while glass continues above the short tiled wall. Calling the whole thing “the door” leaves the estimator guessing which piece you mean.

Report the symptom and identify the affected piece. Ask what can stay after the enclosure is inspected.

## Describe when the problem shows up

If you’ve already seen water escape, note where it first appeared and what you were doing at the time. Was the door fully closed? Was water at the bottom edge, the wall side or the joint by a stationary panel? A wet mat alone cannot locate the leak. If the glass is chipped, cracked, loose or rubbing, stop using the enclosure and arrange an assessment rather than running another test.

Take a wide photograph from a safe position and mark the area on a copy. A close view of a safely visible fitting or seal helps when paired with that overview. Don’t remove hardware or force the door for a photo.

## Look for the identity of the assembly

An invoice, product label or older installation sheet is often more useful than a picture of a similar sweep online. Basco’s parts store, for example, organizes replacements by enclosure and part type. That is a manufacturer example, not an identification of the enclosure pictured here.

Ask whether the proposed part fits the existing glass and fittings, and whether an inspection points to a separate alignment or support issue. A replacement seal should not be used to mask contact between the moving glass and a hard surface.

## Get a written boundary around what stays

If a part can be replaced, ask which panel and hardware will remain. If a new door is proposed, ask whether the fixed pieces and attachment points can be retained and who checks that compatibility. If the enclosure has to come out, separate removal and patching from the new glass scope.

The documented 84 Clinton project on the Lower East Side shows an enclosure replacement, a useful comparison when a repair is no longer the right scope. It is a different opening from the photograph above and doesn’t establish which option is suitable for your bathroom.

## Bring the actual room into the estimate.

For this project, useful photos show:

- Whole enclosure from outside the shower
- Safely visible area of rubbing or first observed water
- Model information or earlier invoice, if known
