# The ceiling line is not the support plan for your LIC glass partition.

MetroGlass Pro gallery photograph of a shower enclosure. Its location is unrecorded here. It is a reference for observing glass boundaries, not an office partition or a Long Island City installation.

The floor plan shows a clean black line where the new meeting room will go. Above that line, there may be a ceiling tile, a plasterboard soffit or exposed structure. Those are different starting points for a glass partition, even when the room looks the same from a desk.

For a Long Island City tenant planning an office fit-out, the useful first drawing follows the partition through the floor, both ends and the ceiling. It should identify what is known at each boundary and who will resolve the unknowns. Choosing clear or frosted glass can wait until the proposed enclosure has a workable relationship with the building.

Show the finish line and the construction behind it as two separate pieces of information.

## Start with what the photograph can actually show

In the MetroGlass Pro photograph, the glass enclosure stands below the room ceiling. You can see a dark lower boundary, small fittings and a corner where two glass planes meet. The pale ceiling beyond the glass is a separate surface. The image is shower work, so it cannot establish an office partition system, attachment design or sound rating.

Use that separation when photographing your own space. A full room view shows the proposed line; a closer ceiling view shows the finish at that line. Add the floor junction and the wall at each end. If the ceiling is suspended, say so when known. A photograph of its underside does not establish the support above it, and there is no reason to open an occupied ceiling just to complete an early estimate brief.

## Ask who confirms each supporting surface

CRL’s Fallbrook specification treats shop drawings, adjacent construction and prepared supports as distinct parts of its partition work. Its examination section calls for checking the field measurements and support preparation before installation. It is a useful example of the information a system needs, rather than a specification for every glass wall.

Ask the project team which partition system is being considered and who confirms its floor, wall and ceiling support. If another contractor must prepare a boundary, name that work and its handoff in the proposal. Do not assume the visible ceiling finish is an approved attachment surface, or that a photo is enough to select an anchor. Final details belong to the selected system and assessed construction.

- Floor: identify the retained finish and any information about services below it.
- Ends: show where the partition meets the existing walls or columns.
- Head: identify the ceiling finish and the person responsible for confirming support.

## Put the door and room use back on the plan

Mark the intended door, furniture and route into the new room. Tell the estimator whether people will hold meetings, make calls or simply separate a reception area. A request for visual privacy is different from a request for acoustic separation. Clear-looking glass in a photograph does not prove either an acoustic result or a fire-rated assembly.

Share the fit-out plan with the building and the responsible project professional before treating the glass layout as settled. Ask them to review the proposed room use and any effects on exits or building services. Then bring their requirements into the glass discussion. The building’s acceptance of the layout and the supplier’s review of the assembly are separate decisions.

## Request a proposal with the unknowns still visible

An early estimate can be useful without pretending that every support is resolved. Send the marked plan, boundary photos, approximate extent and required privacy. Identify who is preparing the floor or ceiling and what access information the building has supplied.

Ask MetroGlass Pro to distinguish the proposed glass and door arrangement from the items still awaiting site assessment, design information or another trade. Before fabrication, confirm who reviews the final drawing and which field conditions must be ready. This gives a Long Island City fit-out team a decision list it can close, rather than a glass order based on the ceiling’s appearance.

## Bring the actual room into the estimate.

For this project, useful photos show:

- Marked floor plan with the intended door
- Full partition line and both wall ends
- Ceiling and floor finishes, with known construction information
